ABOUT THE MOREAU ART GALLERIES

A series of up to nine exhibitions by professional, contemporary artists rotate in the three different exhibition spaces of the Moreau Art Galleries: The Sister Rosaire Extension Gallery, The Little Theatre Gallery, and Hammes Gallery. Department of Art student exhibitions—annual Porfolio Reviews, Senior Comprehensive Exhibitions, and the summer Juried Student Exhibition—are also on display in the Moreau Art Galleries throughout the academic year. Department of Art student work is also exhibited on a rotating basis in the Marilou Eldrid Gallery in the Student Center on Saint Mary’s College campus.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. The gallery is closed on campus holidays and during the summer months. Occasionally, the gallery is open during the weekends for special campus functions–check this blog for most up-to-date information, or email the Gallery Director, Krista Hoefle.
Gallery Mission:

“Pink Bliss” by Sabrina Raaf from her solo exhibition, 2001.
The mission of the Moreau Art Galleries at Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN) is to present professional and educational exhibitions of contemporary art that are challenging and innovative in both content and media. In one exhibition season a range of media, content, and point of view are represented. Exhibitions firstly serve as a teaching tool for the department of art and reflect the needs, interests and concerns of students. Secondly, exhibitions support the educational objectives of other departments at Saint Mary’s College. In addition, exhibitions serve as cultural and intellectual enrichment for the Saint Mary’s community. Thirdly, the Moreau Galleries encourages the community-at-large to become more aware of the important role the arts play in education and the general enhancement of everyday life the visual arts provide.
