Welcome back to campus! May the season of “Uggs” begin….
Coming soon to the Moreau Art Galleries…three fabulous new solo shows by emerging artists Cara Erskine (Little Theatre Gallery), Katrine Hildebrandt (Sister Rosaire Gallery), and Robert Ladislas Derr (Hammes Gallery).
Maine-based artist Katrine Hildebrandt will debut her new drawing installation entitled “Above, Below, and Within” in Sister Rosaire Gallery. Using symbols from information visualization in combination with her quirky, gestural drawing style, Katrine’s mixed media drawings and installations investigate these systems through a philosophical lens. Little Theatre Gallery will feature painter Cara Erskine’s solo show, “Waldo.” Ms. Erskine received her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University, and after a few years in New York City, she relocated to Pittsburgh, PA to teach and continue her studio practice. ”Light, storms, and the expansive landscape” are a continual source of inspiration for her paintings. Hammes Gallery will feature Robert Ladislas Derr’s “The World Isn’t Always Round”— a multichannel video installation and series of photographs illustrating the artist as influential in shaping culture and pushing society forward. In his words, “The artist, a dreamer, an autonomous individual, is essentially boundless, which enables for a constant creative flux. With the artist continuously propelling culture and society forward, Derr postulates just one of many examples, where would society be without Leonardo da Vinci’s sixteenth century sketches of the human anatomy, architecture, and inventions?”
Stop by the gallery the week of January 18 through the 22nd…Katrine Hildebrandt and Cara Erskine will be installing their exhibitions throughout the week!
OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, JANUARY 22 FROM 5-7PM.
