<p class="MsoBodyText"><strong><span>The Moreau Art Galleries and the Department of Art (Saint Mary’s College) announces the opening of three solo exhibitions running from August 16-September 17, 2010</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Professors Sandra Ginter and Patti Sayre will debut new work created during their recent sabbatical leaves from Saint Mary&#8217;s College. &#8220;Existence&#8221; by Sandra Ginter explores installation in conjunction with ceramics in Hammes Gallery; &#8220;Losing Face&#8221; by Patti Sayre investigates contemporary portraiture through drawing, printmaking and book arts in Little Theatre Gallery. </span><span>Inspired by systems that contain examples of simultaneous order and chaos, Minnesota-based artist Liz Miller’s installations and works on paper reference biology, natural disasters, and computer imagery. <span> </span>For her solo exhibition in Sister Rosaire, Miller presents a series of works on paper titled &#8220;Exponential Growth.&#8221;</span><span></span></p>

<p>Coming soon to the Moreau Art Galleries&#8230;three fabulous new solo shows by emerging artists Cara Erskine (Little Theatre Gallery), Katrine Hildebrandt (Sister Rosaire Gallery), and Robert Ladislas Derr (Hammes Gallery).</p>

<p class="MsoBodyText"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Maine-based artist </span><a href="http://www.katrinehildebrandt.com" target="_blank">Katrine Hildebrandt</a><span style="font-weight: normal;"> will debut her new d</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">rawing installation entitled</span> “Above, Below, and Within”<span style="font-weight: normal;"> in Sister Rosaire Gallery.   Using symbols from information visualization in combination with her quirky, gestural drawing style, Katrine’s mixed media drawings and installations investigate these systems through a philosophical lens.  <strong>Little Theatre Gallery</strong> will feature painter </span><a href="http://www.caraerskine.com" target="_blank">Cara Erskine’</a>s solo show, “Waldo.”<span style="font-weight: normal;"> Ms. Erskine </span><span><span style="font-weight: normal;">received her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University, and after a few years in New York City, she relocated to Pittsburgh, PA to teach and continue her studio practice.</span></span><span><span style="font-weight: normal;"> </span></span><span style="font-weight: normal;">”Light, storms, and the expansive landscape” are a continual source of inspiration for her paintings.  <strong>Hammes Gallery</strong> will feature <strong><a href="http://home1.arts.ohio-state.edu/~derr34/" target="_blank">Robert Ladislas Derr</a></strong><strong>’s “The World Isn’t Always Round”</strong>— a multichannel video installation and series of photographs <span>illustrating the artist as influential in shaping culture and pushing society forward. In his words, &#8220;The artist, a dreamer, an autonomous individual, is essentially boundless, which enables for a constant creative flux. With the artist continuously propelling culture and society forward, Derr postulates just one of many examples, where would society be without</span><span> Leonardo da Vinci</span><span>’s</span><em><span> </span></em><span>sixteenth century sketches of the human anatomy, architecture, and inventions?&#8221;</span></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Now open at the Moreau Art Galleries in the Moreau Center for the Arts:</strong></p>
<p><strong>&#8220;Talking in Place&#8221;&#8230;a solo exhibition by Tia Factor in Sister Rosaire Gallery</strong>.  Featuring works on paper that function as imagined cartographies of landscape and architecture.</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;Call Home Mothers Dead&#8221;&#8230;a solo exhibition by Adriane Little in Hammes Gallery.</strong> A video installation that “investigates trauma and ritual firstly through an interrogation of a presence and absence of the maternal body,” and establishes what she describes as, “the matrilineal ghost.”</p>
<p>and last but not least, <strong>new work by Mark Franchino in Little Theatre Gallery</strong>.  A post-minimalist installation  infused with quiet elegance and an understated humor.</p>
<p><strong>Exhibitions run from August 24-September 25, 2009.  Join us for the Artist&#8217;s Reception on Friday, September 11 from 5-7pm!</strong></p>
